Garden functionality

The second step is to determine what you want to do in your garden. And not only you, you also need to know what the family wants to do in the garden (spouse, children and pets). You can think of the following things:

  • playing equipment

  • swimming pool

  • eating and cooking

  • sunbathing

  • snoozing in the shade

  • sitting outside till late at night

  • reading

  • internet :-)

  • birdwatching

  • relaxation

  • entertaining people

  • how many people do you want to be able to sit (at a table, in comfortable chairs)

What kind of storage space do you need for: tools, garden furniture, barbecue, extra garden soil, compost, storage of firewood, potting supplies etc. etc. Do you need a shed and how big should it be? What about your car? Is a garage needed? Do you have children? What about their toys and playing equipment? Do you need to fence the garden, because of privacy, security, the children or your pets?
